Assumption Holy Day This Thursday
This Thursday, August 15, we honor Mary, the Mother of God as we celebrate the feast of the Assumption. Masses will follow the normal holyday schedule. The mass on the evening before will be at 7 p.m. On Thursday, masses will be at 7 a.m. and at noon. We rejoice that Mary, having completed her mission as the Mother of the Savior, was taken up to heaven in glory. Her unending joy in the presence of her Son is also our destiny.
Monthly Rosary of Peace
On Thursday August 15th, you are invited to join in a Rosary for Peace to be celebrated here in the church from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. All are welcome.
Upon This Rock News
The most recent disbursement of funds from the Upon This Rock campaign came to $2,806.99. This represents our 35% share to date of parish pledges. This amount will be added to funds previously received but not yet spent ($25,546.25). These monies will be used as follows: $20,000 is for the partial cost of a new roof for portions of the church (adoration room area, sacristy area and passageway). In addition, $4,000, plus electrician costs, will allow installation of handicapped accessible door hardware. Keep in mind that last fall we used $37,500 from Upon This Rock to purchase a replacement dump truck and plow for use at the cemetery and church. Please continue your pledge payments. As you can see, they allow for much needed capital improvements at the parish.
S.E.A.S. Anniversary News
Our annual celebration with heritage potluck dinner is about a month away. Be sure to reserve Saturday Sept. 14th at 6 p.m. in your calendar. A flyer with details will be coming soon. Meanwhile consider making a theme basket to be raffled off at the dinner. All attending will receive a free raffle ticket. Last year we had 15 beautiful baskets, but we hope for 20 this year! If you can donate a theme basket, call the parish office at 366-1750. For questions about the celebration; contact Marsha Miller at 366-4268.
Vacation Bible School
This week our local Catholic parishes hosted a Summer Bible School at Northern Chautauqua Catholic School. Some 42 young children were registered in addition to 8 older youth willing to serve in various capacities as crew leaders and helpers. We are especially grateful to the adults who planned and staffed the endeavor, in particular Denise Kropp who organized this important work of youth formation.
