Summary of Parish Finance Council
The council, including Andy Dziduch, Frank Valone, Marti Webster, Chris Anson, Doug Haase, Zen Olow (excused) and Fr Dennis, met on June 18, 2019. Jean Crane, former chair, will continue to advise us along with Ellen Luczkowiak. Marti Webster agreed to chair the council. We reviewed finance figures for parish and cemetery for Sept 18, 2018 to June 18, 2019 and a complete list of all parish assets. The income figures do not yet reflect expected healthy income for the second quarter of the St. Joseph Investment Fund.
Sunday Collections are down about 12% compared with a somewhat comparable period last year. We did not take up the 10 month lottery last year (about $5,000) or the annual cemetery collection (about $10,000). Employee expenses are also down since we have reduced certain employee hours.
Extraordinary parish income was enhanced by a bequest for $25,562.23 from the estate of Gertrude Ortlieb as well as $8,000 from her insurance policy. We were also notified that the parish will eventually receive $40,000 from Dick Anson’s Estate.
The council discussed needed projects, especially the tear off and replacement of Rubber Membrane Roofs over the eastern addition of the church, including passageway to rectory, sacristy, side chapel, and vestibule facing parking lot. This will be expensive work. We reviewed 3 proposals and recommended the proposal from AW Farrell Co. for about $50,000. (Our next step is to acquire diocesan permission. In addition, there are several other projects to be considered totaling at least $15,000, including trimming all trees on premises, installing automatic door openers, a handicapped railing and purchase of a new copier. We will try to tackle them as per need and availability of money.
