The Deacon’s Bench
A few words from Deacon Greg
Thank you for the warm welcome last weekend. I can tell already that this is a very special community with many gifts.
This weekend as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ and this celebration reminds me of what we are all about when we gather for Mass. When we approach to receive Holy Communion, the minister says, “The body [blood] of Christ.” In those words we receive as St. Augustine puts it, “Who we are.” We are the body of Christ. He completes his thought by saying, “Become whom you receive.” There’s the challenge. It’s one thing to receive Jesus “body and blood; soul and divinity;” it’s quite another to rise to the challenge of being the body and blood of Christ.
As I mentioned in my opening remarks at all the Masses last weekend, I said that I see the vision of parish as being much like the Trinity, “a community of love.” If we put the two together then we have a great recipe for a vibrant parish; a community of love and all that entails. To help us to understand that and create a vision moving forward, we will have TOWN HALL MEETINGS after each Mass the weekend of June 23/24. What does that mean? After Mass, we will gather to ask three questions:
1- What are the strengths/blessings/graces of SEAS?
2- What are the challenges/hurdles, things holding us back at SEAS?
3- What are some ideas for activities/programs that would make SEAS the best community of love?
So, if you care about SEAS [and I know you do if you are reading this] plan to stay behind for a very short period [no longer than 1 hour].
God Bless, Deacon Greg
