SEAS MASS GUIDELINE CHANGES DUE TO CORONAVIRUS THREAT
Dear Parishioners,
We are living and ministering in extraordinary times. Following the guidelines and directives of New York State and also Erie County regarding the coronavirus, we all must be vigilant in doing all that is possible to participate in efforts to minimize and prevent the spread of the coronavirus, especially among older adults and those most vulnerable. Therefore, effective immediately, the following directives are to be followed throughout the Diocese of Buffalo:
- Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger temporarily dispenses the Catholic Faithful from the obligation to attend Mass on weekdays, weekends and Holy Days. (Press release link – Coronavirus Mass Dispensation – March 13 2020.pdf)
- Masses should be celebrated as announced and scheduled, though attendance may not exceed 50 persons according to the guidelines issued by the Commissioner of Health, Erie County, NY. Regardless of the parish location, the Diocese of Buffalo is adhering to these guidelines.
- Holy Water fonts should be emptied and thoroughly cleaned.
- The sign of Peace should be omitted or instructed to be carried out without physical contact.
- At all Masses, the distribution of the cup for Holy Communion is to be removed.
- Reception of the Eucharist on the tongue should be discouraged.
Thank you for your understanding and God Bless.
Sincerely,
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Staff
