The Minimun Lenten Observance
- Abstinence: All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are bound to abstain totally from meat on the following days: Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.
- Fasting: All Catholics between their 18th and 59th birthdays are also bound to observe the Law of Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions in the course of the day.
- Self-denial: Is encouraged voluntarily. Acts might include daily Mass, spiritual study, Lenten devotions, the Rosary, deeds of kindness etc.
The Light is ON for You
This Lent we encourage you to celebrate the Gift of Reconciliation with one of several special opportunities for confessions. You may choose to stay for confession after the 11 am mass on the Sundays of Lent. In addition, once a month on the day before the First Friday, a confessor is available in the church at 4pm. Thus, this Thursday at 4 pm Fr. Werbicki will be in the confessional. Of course we are always there for confessions on Saturday at 4 pm.
Lenten Devotion
The Stations of the Cross are an extended reflection on the Jesus’ final journey toward the cross, death and resurrection. They are celebrated each Friday of Lent at 4:30 p.m. and take about 20 – 30 minutes. All are welcome.
Lenten Evening Prayer
Lenten Evening Prayer in the Taize Tradition will again be held here each Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. in our church. The Taize prayer form is borrowed from a famous interdenominational monastery in France and blends, song, scripture and silence. All are welcome to attend.
Soup and Scripture
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus urged his listeners to live in a way that fosters justice, peace, harmony, and well-being within and among people. Matthew 5-7: How to Be Happy helps us apply the message of the Sermon on the Mount to our own lives today and find true joy in our walk of faith.
Don’t miss Soup and Scripture this Lent. The guided reflections will be held each Wednesday of Lent (except Ash Wednesday) in the meeting room below the rectory. The soup and bread supper starts at 6:30 p.m. and the Scripture Session at 7 p.m. Participants read a chapter of a simple guide book before each session. This year, the guide is called Matthew 5-7; How to be Happy. It is from the Six Weeks with the Bible series by Kevin Perrotta. The guidebooks will be furnished, but we ask that each participant pay the $8 cost at the first class. Please call the rectory to indicate your participation so that we can order the guidebooks for all participants.
Sessions will be held on Wednesday March 13th, 20th, 27th, April 3rd, 10th, and 17th. Please join us!
