Despite the narrow judgment of the US Supreme Court, The Catholic Church does not and cannot sanction same sex marriages as valid. The teaching of the Church remains unchanged.
To quote Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB): The recent decision….. “….does not settle the question of marriage today no more than Roe vs. Wade settled the question of abortion over 40 years ago.” … (Mandating) marriage redefinition is a tragic error that harms the common good. …. The unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is inscribed in our bodies as male and female.”
Bishop Malone, speaking as chief teacher of the Church of Buffalo said, “I am bitterly disappointed….. Marriage is the lifelong exclusive union of one man and one woman… the foundation of a stable family and society ….….”
